According to the Portland Oregonian, Payne struggled with Lippo's weaving style for the first four rounds. In the 5th, Lippo was dropped by a right and left to the body, followed by a right to the jaw. After Lippo was staggered by a a series of rights to the body, and pounded on the ropes, referee Kewpie Riley stopped the bout.
