Burton knocked Williams down with two right crosses in the 11th round, sending him through the ropes and onto the lap of World welterweight champion Sugar Ray Robinson. Williams had rallied in the later stages of the fight, as Burton had suffered a badly torn fingernail in his left hand in the 4th round, which had led him to rely heavily on his right.
