• Commentator Ken Norton notes that he and fellow commentator measured the ring pre-fight and ended up with a 16 foot by 16 foot ring. A normal ring at the time was 18 feet by 18 feet.
• Parlov's nose and face begin to redden in the first round.
• Parlov cut over right eye in round 2, at the same time developing damage along the ridge of his nose.
• Johnson stuns Parlov numerous times in the ninth round, with a succession of several clean, hard left hands.
• Johnson receives a small cut under his left eye in round 10.
• A Johnson left hook floors Parlov in round 10, who rises and takes the eight count but is knocked down again later in the same round. He rises, but the referee waves off the contest after inspecting the badly beaten Parlov.
