Spencer built up a lead in the bout, but tired badly beginning in the 7th round. In the 8th round, working the body, Terranova dropped Spencer for a seven-count. Spencer staggered to his feet and attempted to hold, but was cornered along the ropes, and just as the bell rang, hit by a pair of rights. Spencer who was badly dazed, failed to answer the bell for the 9th round.
