Following the unanimous decision verdict, Saoul Mamby and his manager filed a protest with the WBC, over the scoring and ring control of Referee Abraham Chavarria.

The WBC announced the next day that it was a split-decision win for Saensak, to make Saoul Mamby look good in the sports newspapers. But, it was truly a unanimous decision win on the official scorecards.

The WBC President (Jose Sulaiman) was asked by Don King (connected to Saoul Mamby) to announce that it was a split-decision, so that Saoul would stay in the top of the ratings and get a possible bout with WBA Light Welterweight Champion - Antonio Cervantes next.

Soon thereafter Don King's son (Carl King} became the Manager for Saoul Mamby.
