Schlaifer had pulled out of a May 25th fight with Roberts in Portland at the last minute, claiming he was ill. The Portland commission suspended him for a year. Schlaifer returned to Portland, after he had been suspended in 27 states as a result of pulling out of the bout. Schlaifer was down twice, before the referee stopped the bout, with him out on his feet.
