John Schwake 224 lbs beat Johnny Risko 194 lbs by NWS in round 10 of 10
- Date: 1931-03-25
- Location: Coliseum, Saint Louis, Missouri, USA
It was an action-packed battle in which Schwake rocked Risko several times. The March 28, 1931, Cleveland Plain Dealer posted a contradictory report to the newspaper decision in favor of Schwake that went over the wires... "RISKO Scores Point Decision Over Schwake," bellowed a headline in the St. Louis Times of Thursday last. Now that wasn't the way we heard about it first a'tall, was it? But, still, the bout was one of those no-decision things, and there you are - or are not. Depending on where you're sitting. "Johnn Schwake was outscored, outheld and outfoxed by Johnny Risko," wrote Mr. Dick Farrington, able sports editor of the Times, "but they can never say the Webster Groves farmer lad did not try. In fact, he was letting Risko have it with his heavier guns when the firing ceased. But Risko, following his customry style against the heavier men he has fought, spent much of his time nullifying Schwake's lumbering offensive and while there was that constant expectation of the former doing something, it never happened."
