J.L. Ivey was a promising amateur Golden Gloves Champion when he faced a rugged fighter in Armando Sanchez from Los Angeles. Ivey dropped Sanchez in the first round with a solid right. Sanchez recovered and dropped Ivey in the third and fourth rounds with straight right hands. Sanchez had a point taken away at the end of the fourth round for knocking his opponent down after the bell. Ivey won on a split decision.
