Hogue was doing well for the first round and a half, until he missed with a left hook and was countered and hurt by Birch with a right hand. Hogue took a pounding in the 3rd round, as he was sent twice sagging into the ropes and went back to his corner unsteady with a broken nose as the round ended. Hogue's corner and the referee decided to stop the bout.
