Leahy proved to have more ring savvy than Carney and earned a unanimous decision in a thriller. On three occasions when it appeared Carney would crumple to the canvas, he came raging back with a blazing attack to have Leahy on the verge of a knockout. There were no knockdowns although both were rocked. Leahy was seconded by legendary British correspondent John S. Sharpe.
