Perkins appeared to be leading through the first four rounds, but Hubbard began connecting with left hooks and body punches, that wore Perkins down. Perkins went down in the last round, taking the mandatory eight-count. The Philadelphia Inquirer felt that it was more of a slip than a knockdown. Perkins was taken to the hospital after the bout for overnight observation.
