The Passaic Herald-News reported that this bout was supposed to be rigged with a decision going to Harrison. Individuals who had bet heavily on Harrison, hoping to profit on him winning, attacked and threatened Harrison's manager Joseph Bongiorno after he failed to deliver the outcome. Attempts were reportedly made through Gans' manager Al Thoma, to get Gans to preform poorly, which were not successful.

The Herald-News felt that Gans won by a wide margin, but that the official decision was closer than it should have been.
