Vastano had battered Carter with shots to the jaw in the 1st round. Carter recovered and battled toe-to-toe with Vastano over the following three rounds. Vastano hurt Carter in the 5th round with left hands, but could not put him down. Appearing to tire, Vastano landed a right to the jaw that put Carter on his back. Carter barely beat the ten count, but fell over quickly again, as Vastano came in to finish him, and the bout was over with one second left in the round.
