Baer, by his own admission, was bothered by the bob and weave tactics of Blackshear during the first two rounds. Late in the 3rd round, Baer landed a left hook and a right hand that sent Blackshear s backwards into the ropes, near the neutral corner. Referee Frank Carter, quickly stepped in and stopped the bout, to protests from Blackshears' team, including trainer Dolph Thomas.
