- "His comeback attempt smashed by Buddy Baer's methodical jabbing and a somewhat mysterious injury to his once potent left hand, Tony Galento, 247, was just another bandaged up heavyweight today. Tony, claiming his hand was broken, quit after six rounds of a scheduled 10-rounder with Baer last night, and Buddy, 240, of Livermore, Calif., was awarded a 7th round TKO. Tony landed his left hand on Baer's face just before he went to his corner at the end of the 6th yelling he was hurt. One of his handlers started to remove Tony's glove, and when the bell rang for the 7th, referee Eddie LaFond awarded the fight to Baer. The New Jersey barkeep bled from the nose and numerous small cuts about the face from the 3rd round on. In the 6th Tony looked ready to call it a night." -Associated Press
- The DC boxing commission physician, Dr. Marvin McLean announced after a preliminary examination that he did not believe Galento's hand was broken. With that in hand, the commission withheld Galento's purse pending an X-Ray examination.
- The following day, Dr. Francis Allman stated his exam of Galento showed no evidence of a fracture, but that the bones had been injured sufficiently enough that would cause great pain. Satisfied with the results, the commission then released Galento's purse of $5,912.50 to him.
