Bob Murphy 160 lbs beat Jimmy Coleman 161 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10
- Date: 1948-09-10
- Location: Coliseum, San Diego, California, USA
Murphy had an edge over Coleman in the first three rounds, and had his foe backing up and bleeding in the 4th round, when he was floored by a short left from Coleman, who was boxing out of a crab-like stance at the end of the round. Murphy got up at the count of eight, and was nearly floored again by a right hand before the bell rang. Coleman went for the finish over the next two rounds, and eventually caught Murphy along the ropes and put him down to one knee. Murphy rose in bad shape, but the bell rang before anymore damage could be done. The action slowed in the next two rounds, as Murphy pulled ahead, piling up points.
Source: San Diego Union, which scored 5-3-2 in rounds for Murphy.
