Bob Murphy 175 lbs beat Dolph Quijano 177 lbs by KO at 2:31 in round 1 of 10
- Date: 1950-10-10
- Location: Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA
- Referee: Abe Roth
Bob Murphy took care of another opponent at the Olympic when he stiffened highly-touted and supposedly rugged Dolph Quijano, 177, in 2:31 of the first round. Quijano was splatted on the deck three times before Referee Abe Roth raised Murphy’s hand in token of victory. Murphy came tearing out with the opening bell, and a left cross delivered from a southpaw stance dropped Quijano for a nine-count. Murphy, 174 ½, pumping leather with both hands, dropped the Texan again with a flurry to the head. Quijano this time just did beat the count. Quijano tossed in a few jolting rights in the next few seconds, but Murphy shook them off and put him down for the third time with a long left to the head. ( Ring Magazine, December 1950, page 45)
