"Led by Lupe Velez, the spitfire Mexican actress, a brief riot broke out in the Olympic Auditorium last night when Leon Zorrita, Los Angeles welterweight, was awarded an unpopular 10-round decision over Pete De Ruzza, New York. Lupe, in high dungeon, vented her wrath in her typical unrestrained style on Freddie Gilmore, who refereed the fight. The trouble started as Referee Gilmore left the ring. He was shoved off the steps by one of De Ruzza's handlers and ducked into the tunnel just in time to escape the wrath of the irate Miss Velez." Hammond Times
