DeRuzza knocked Grimm down twice in the 1st round. Both knockdowns were nine-counts, which the Louisville Courier-Journal thought were long counts. Grimm was down again for a nine-count in the 2nd round, but recovered to box well enough to have the edge in the 3rd and 4th rounds. In the 5th round, DeRuzza put Grimm down for a fourth and final time, with a right to the chin.
