Thompson fouled Ray in the second round, but the fight was allowed to continue. In the 6th round, Turkey landed a blow that was called "low" by referee Lee Ramage, and Ray was given a 10-minute rest. He refused to continue after his rest, and claimed a foul, which was disallowed under the rules at the time. The bout was declared a "no contest" instead.
