The two traded power punches in the bout, particularly right hands. Hoshino scored the first knockdown of the bout in the 5th round with a right to the jaw. Davis took a five-count, though he did not appear hurt. Davis put Hoshino down for the first time in the 6th round with a right hand, and was dropped a second time by another right hand for nine at the end of the round. In the 7th round, Hoshino was hurt with a left hook to the jaw, and then was driven to the canvas by an assault from Davis. After rising at nine, Hoshino was attacked again by Davis, who then finished him a right hand to the button.

Hoshino collapsed in his dressing room afterward and was taken to St. Francis Hospital with a brain concussion. He then announced his retirement. Tacoma News Tribune
