Al Hostak 157 lbs beat Johnny Sikes 161 lbs by KO at 1:41 in round 2 of 10
- Date: 1937-03-09
- Location: Crystal Pool, Seattle, Washington, USA
- Referee: Tommy Clark
Hostak stunned Sikes with his first left hook of the fight, but did little else in the remainder of the 1st round. Halfway through the 2nd round, Hostak nailed Sikes with a left hook to the jaw that sent him to the canvas, halfway through the ropes. Sikes rose at the count of nine, and was met with fuselage of punches from Hostak, who eventually sent him down for a second time. This time the referee waved the fight off, without bothering to issue a count.
"After the fight was over Cecil Payne, who trained with Sikes, praised the Hostak-Marino strategy. "He's a sucker for a left hand" Payne said of Sikes. "I couldn't tag him with a right in training but seldom missed with my left."
