Archibald was the aggressor in the bout, but Bang was hard to hit, and was more accurate with his punches than Archibald. Bang had his best round in the 9th round, but when he tried to press his advantage in the final round, Archibald was able to knock him down for a four-count. Degasse voted for Bang, while the other two officials had it a draw.

New Bedford A.A. promoter/matchmaker Jimmy Burke lost his license for putting on this bout, as the state commission felt it was a mismatch due to Archibald's experience.
