Scoring a knockdown in the seventh round, Georgie Colton, undefeated Tewksbury 22-year-old, gained a split eight-round decision over the veteran Jimmy Connors of New Bedford, to top an Arena program, last night. Colton, who weighed 123 to Connors'130 turned in a spectacular battle to rack up his ninth win without a loss. The blood flowed freely on both sides as Colton caught the votes of judges Jim Carrig and George Flate, Referee Eddie Bradley saw it for Connors. [Boston Herald, August 25, 1961]
