George Colton 126 lbs lost to Jimmy Connors 130 lbs by SD in round 10 of 10

Both Connors and Colton survived cuts in their bitter scrap. Connors was dropped in the 10th round by a right hand, the only knockdown of the fight. Connors, 130, evened the score with Colton, 126, with the split decision. Connors forced the pace throughout. Colton counter-punched mostly, but not often enough to impress. Referee Eddie Bradley, an optometrist, saw the fight very differently than most people. Bradley had Colton ahead 98-92. Connors won the fight on the votes of Judge Joe Santoto (95-94) and Judge Joe Fontana (96-95). [Boston Herald December 13, 1961]
