Woods was knocked down by a right hand to the chin in the 1st round, and was up without a count being administered. Woods then attacked Punay and knocked him down with a left-right. Punay also rose without a count, and the two went at it for the remainder of the round. Woods carried the fight in the 2nd and 3rd round, but appeared to tire in the 4th round. He regained the initiative in the 5th, and knocked Punay down again in the 6th round.

Woods was dropped with a "stinging left" to the chin in the first but was "up in a flash," while Punay was floored for a nine-count in the sixth but the bell saved him "as he reeled around the ropes with Woods charging in with slashing fists in a desperate attempt to finish the bout."
