Johnny Griffiths 146 lbs drew with Billy Shade 156 lbs by PTS in round 4 of 4
- Date: 1920-04-23
- Location: Arena, Seattle, Washington, USA
- Referee: Pat Scott
"A couple thousand boxing followers went to the Arena last night to see Johnny Griffiths, the famous welterweight from Akron, Ohio, but they went home talking about Billy Shade, a young Westerner who has yet to make his mark in ring affairs. The fans fully expected to see Jack Britton's greatest rival measure Shade for a spanking, but Johnny Griffiths never had a tougher 12 minutes than in last night's main event. The decision was a draw, but such a battle did the Coast boy put up that many of those who had paid their three bucks to see the contest insisted that Shade was entitled to the decision." Everett Daily Herald.
The Seattle Times agreed with the draw decision; giving Griffiths the first round, Shade the fourth, and having the second and third even.
