Eddie Pinkman beat Joe Smith by TKO in round 1 of 4
- Date: 1914-10-10
- Location: People's Theater, Everett, Washington, USA
The bout "proved to be a farce owing to the disposition to show a yellow streak displayed by the Tacoma boy. After about a minute of the mill he quit cold, folded his arms about his face and crouched on the floor as if frightened to death. [Referee Biddy?] Bishop disgustedly held up Pinkham's arm in sign of the Seattle boy's victory and Smith moved to the ropes as if dazed. It was generally believed he was either drunk or doped. Pinkham is a clean and speedy fighter, his blows being clean cut and steamy. He will make action for any northwest fighter in his weight, about 123 pounds. A spectator remarked, 'Where do you get that stuff,' which indicated the attitude of the audience upon the conduct of Smith." Everett Morning Tribune
