For six rounds the boys stood toe-to-toe punching it out, but in the seventh Lunn began to fade and Gronik turned on the power. Referee Herman Spinelli halted the bout in the eighth with Allie a TKO win.

As Lunn left the ring and started for the dressing room he collapsed and following unsuccessful attempts to revive him, he was rushed to a hospital. A spinal tap made the following day revealed the fighter suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. The knockout was the fourth suffered by Lunn, during a career which covered twenty bouts and his second in four starts since returning from the army.
