Cecil Payne 136 lbs drew with Henry Woods 137 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10

Woods won two of the first three rounds, as he stabbed Payne and danced away. In the 4th, Payne hit Woods with two good rights, and appeared to have him in bad shape before the bell from a left to the head. Woods continued to retreat through the middle rounds, prompting Payne to drop his hands in the 7th, to plead with Woods to stand and fight him. Payne would sweep the last three rounds, stunning Woods with a left hand in the 8th round.

The Seattle Times felt that Payne had an edge in the bout, landing the harder blows in the fight, while Woods did land more blows.

Payne was cut over his left eye in the 8th, Woods sustained a bruise over his left eye in the 6th round.

Woods got into an argument with promoter Nate Druxman after this bout, which coupled with other outside the ring issues, would end his boxing career in Seattle for nearly four years.
