Takeshita knocked Kim down three times in the 1st round. Kim took control of the bout at the end of the 2nd round, with his pace showing wear on Takeshita by the 4th round. In the 5th round, Kim sent Takeshita reeling with a left to the jaw, and a follow-up right sent him him through the ropes. Takeshita untangled himself from the ropes at seven, but took a knee for the remaining ten-count.
