Gordon Wallace, Vancouver, 145 ¾, was awarded a decision over Werther Arcelli, 146 ¾, in a bitter dog-eat-dog slugfest. Bad feelings developed early in the bout, and both resorted to rough tactics. Wallace opened a cut over Arcelli’s left eye in the second and reopened it every round thereafter. In the fifth he also opened a cut over Arcelli’s right eye. Still, straight left hands and smashing right-hand uppercuts won the match.
