After taking the first round, Zivic was staggered by a right to the head in the 2nd round, which turned the direction of the bout. In the 5th round, Barbara doubled over Zivic with his body blows. Zivic rallied in the 6th and 7th rounds, before Barbara rallied in the last three rounds, as Zivic grew cautious. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Barbara "walloped, wrestled, and wasn't averse to butting on occasion." Zivic fought with a patch on his left cheek, covering an injury from the previous meeting of the two, which he appeared to be trying to protect.
