Lloyd Marshall 163 lbs lost to Holman Williams 159 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1943-09-03
  • Location: Coliseum Arena, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA
  • Referee: Battling Ferdie

According to reporter Pete Baird, in the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Williams fought strictly on the defense and "this correspondent thought Marshall should have had the verdict by plenty." The first round was slow. Marshall cornered Williams in the second and "began cracking him with terrific left hooks to the body. In the third round Marshall looked like a sure kayo winner as Holman ran for his life." Marshall slowed up in the next two rounds and the fans booed the slow action. Baird thought that Marshall won most of the remaining rounds. "We will never fight here again" was the comment of Marshall's manager. "It was terrible. How can you fight a guy who won't fight?"
