Norment Quarles 135 lbs beat Freddie Miller 127 lbs by SD in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1937-03-22
  • Location: Music Hall Arena, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
  • Referee: Earl Butler

Quarles got off to a slow start, before beginning to counter-punch Miller in the 3rd round, landed blows that stung Miller. Miller opted to change from his usual dancing style, to instead fight toe-to-toe with Quarles. This proved to be Miller's downfall, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer, as Quarles began to work Miller's body before going upstairs. Quarles was in command the rest of the way, as Miller attempted to tie up, to no avail. Miller was hurt by a right hand to the chin in the 8th round, which sent him to the ropes, and led him to hang on to Quarles until he recovered.
