Ted Whitfield’s return to the ring after an absence of nearly a year was successful, but it took him a big ninth round to earn the decision. Whitfield won by a majority vote over Dave Dittmar of White Plains, NY. Tuesday night, at the Four Seasons Arena, getting the decision of both judges in the 10-round bout while the referee called it a draw. Whitfield, 146, of Brockton, scored well throughout the fight with left jabs and in-fighting, then had his 147-pound foe groggy with a series of rights in the ninth, although he couldn’t put him down.
