It was a close fight until the end and tough as the night was for Simms, it was even tougher for referee Will Esperon, who took a punch to the face from Castillo after he stepped in to stop the bout. It was more of a slap than a punch from Castillo, who was upset with Esperon for halting the bout. "We're going to ban his butt," Dickie Cole, the state's boxing coordinator, said of Castillo. "He'll never fight in Texas again."
