• Only win in last 15 bouts in the career of journeyman Ivan Alvarez, who had been knocked out by future WBO World Featherweight champion Steve Luevano in the first round of his previous bout.

• Jones was down in the seventh round from a hip punch kidney shot, which appeared to be improperly scored as a knockdown. Jones protested the knockdown. Alvarez knocked down Jones again in the eighth round with a looping right hand, a good punch. Jones landed more punches than Alvarez, but his timing was off and his legs were not there.
