Schoell used his left hand to take seven rounds, with Ryan having an advantage in the first and last round. Ryan tried unsuccessfully to land his hard right hand. These two had been scheduled to meet in May at Redland Field, but Ryan pulled out of the match the day of the fight. This resulted in him being barred in Cincinnati, and Greater Cincinnati, until this match. Ryan was forced to post a $2,000 forfeit prior to the bout.
