• The Associated Press reported: "Marvin Hagler dominated rounds one through five last night at The Spectrum, including scoring a third-round knockdown. The New England middleweight then cruised in rounds six, seven and eight, and frustrated Cyclone Hart of Philadelphia, who could not come out for round nine. Cyclone Hart was also penalized two points, as twice he hit Hagler after the bell in what looked like deliberate punches."
• From the middle rounds on, Hart's corner was in chaos. "They were arguing the whole fight," said promoter J. Russell Peltz. "At one point, I heard Hart tell his trainer, Sam Solomon, 'Aw, the hell with it. Why don't you just throw in the towel?'"
