Veneziano died the next day of a fractured skull. This was his debut, and the first bout of the show. Newark Evening Star [1] [2]

Although some believed he had received the injury during the bout, ringside observers testified that the bout was relatively tame. After his fight, Veneziano stood on a bench to watch the other bouts, then apparently fainted and fell backwards hitting his head. That was likely when he fractured his skull, not during the bout.
