Sam Langford lost to Harry Wills by NWS in round 8 of 8
- Date: 1919-07-04
- Location: Sportsman's Park, Saint Louis, Missouri, USA
- Referee: Walter Heisner
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch felt the two put on a thrilling bout, with both men only slowing for a clinch-filled 6th round. The Post-Dispatch felt that Wills had a good lead on points, and landed with both hands, especially with the left hook. Wills knocked Langford down with a left to the body, for a nine-count in the 3rd round. The Post-Dispatch felt that Wills was in trim shape, while Langford appeared fat and flabby. Langford appeared to tire and began clinch in the 5th and 6th rounds, and dropped the last two rounds in the eyes of the Post-Dispatch.
