Both the Honolulu Advertiser and Honolulu Star-Bulletin felt this was a bad decision, and that Horiguchi clearly won. The crowd, which was heavily Japanese booed the decision. Horiguchi was reported to be the aggressor in the bout, though the Star-Bulletin noted that he landed few clean punches.
