"Chestnut..had taken a savage beating in the third round, and he went to his corner with his right eye shut tight..Following the rest period, Trainer Whitey Bimstein and Manager Freddie Fierro called Referee Mushy Callahan to their corner and complained that Chestnut had been thumbed. After the bell had sounded for Round 4, the complaints continued." (The Ring, May 1959, page 42. Chestnut was not allowed to come out for round four and it was a technical knockout.
