The two slugged in the center of the ring, with Nolan opening a cut over Abbott's right eye with a right hand punch. Nolan then punched Abbott about the ring, and sent him to the canvas with another right hand. Abbott staggered up at nine, but was quickly put down for the count by another right to the jaw. The Santa Rosa Press Democrat called this a big upset.
