Jimmy Beck beat Jack Sweeney by PTS in round 4 of 4

  • Date: 1931-01-22
  • Location: Greenwich Coliseum, Tacoma, Washington, USA
  • Referee Forrest Hurd ruled that Sweeney, on one knee after a knockdown, still had a glove on the canvas when the fatal ten was counted, although many disagreed. "The decision provoked one of the most rabid outbursts of indignation I have ever witnessed in a Tacoma boxing arena. Angry fans not only yelled their disapproval, but shook their fists menacingly in the referee's face." Nelson Hong of the Tacoma News-Tribune. Matchmaker Johnny Pepe tried to assuage the crowd. Both boxers agreed to continue.
