"For seven rounds the youngsters went at it hammer and tongs with Gerson showing effectiveness with a sharp right cross that opened a deep cut over Landers’ left eye. The New Yorker refused to stop punching and the bout was torrid until the eighth and last round when Landers began bleeding so badly that his seconds threw in the towel. It was a rousing battle, and Gerson made the best showing of his career to date."
