Max Baer vs. Arthur De Kuh
Max Baer 203 lbs beat Arthur De Kuh 220 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10
- Date: 1931-12-30
- Location: Auditorium, Oakland, California, USA
- Referee: Toby Irwin
Baer put forth a poor performance, as opinion was split in the crowd as to who deserved the decision. Baer began the bout in a crouch, shooting two lefts to the body without return, before he was clubbed by a pair of right hands, that brought him out of the crouch. Baer was cut over his left eye in the 3rd round, but cut De Kuh over the left eye in the 5th round with a clubbing right hand. Baer's eye would swell for the remainder of the fight. Baer was wild and missed often with his right hands, as the two clinched frequently. Baer did close with an agressive 10th round, perhaps sensing that he needed the round to earn the decision. After the bout, Baer's trainer Bob McAllister cited a lack of quality sparring for his charges lackluster performance.
