The crowd booed the decision, according to the Wilkes-Barre Record, which felt that Nelson should have gotten at least a draw. Braddock battered Nelson around the ring in the 6th round, and also had a nice 3rd round when he hurt Nelson with a right hand to the jaw. In the 2nd, 4th, and 5th rounds, the Record felt that Braddock "seemed at sea", while Nelson carried the fight to him.
