Southpaw Finnegan won every round until referee Bill White stopped it halfway through the 8th. Some members would not have objected if he had stopped it earlier. Benoit was warned 3 times in the first 2 rounds for hitting with the inside of his glove, and never was in the hunt. Chris did all the chasing, scoring with solid hooks and jabs. It is probable that Benoit could have gone the full 10 rounds, but referee White watched the proceedings keenly, and in the 8th considered that Benoit was doing so little that there was no point in continuing.
